This Week in Musketeer Sports: 8/23-8/30

Welcome to Sansom Sports Media’s first edition of our new weekly update on ALL Xavier athletics. College sports are beginning to take off, meaning there were Musketeers competing everywhere!

Athlete of the Week: Peyton Kohls (Women’s Soccer)

Men’s Basketball

Coach Pitino and his staff are on a heater, landing multiple Class of 2027 commits and hosting more players on visits. Catch up on it all below:

Women’s Volleyball

On Monday, the team took on #4 ranked Pittsburgh in the AVCA First Serve Tournament. They lost 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-18).

On Saturday, they matched up with Ball State in the Notre Dame Tournament, where they lost 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22).

They continued the Notre Dame Tournament on Sunday, beating the hosts 3-1 (29-27, 25-25, 18-25, 25-15).

This week’s schedule:

Georgia Tech Tournament:

9/4 vs Campbell

9/5 vs Southern Indiana

9/6 vs Georgia Tech

Men’s Soccer

The squad’s lone match of the week was on Tuesday at home against Bellarmine, where they drew 0-0. Goalkeeper Jonny Mennell set the school record for shutouts (20)!

This week’s schedule:

8/31 @ Northwestern

9/4 vs Bowling Green

Women’s Soccer

Their lone game of the week was at home against the Indiana Hoosiers, where they won 3-2. Goals were scored by Peyton Kohls (7′), Brooklyn O’Brien (17′), and Sara Parker (56′). Assists by Breanna Dardano (7′) and Kohls (56′).
