The Tri-State area was loaded with news this week! You probably felt like you couldn’t keep up with it all. If that pertains to you, don’t worry; we have everything that happened this week here! There was so much excitement this week, including an FCC game winner, a massive commitment for UK, a JJ Bleday cycle, court rulings, another Bengals preseason game, and more! Check it all out below!
Pro Sports
Bengals
Training camp continued this week, some notes are below:
-Tanner Hudson’s role on the team has been increasingly more important since the preseason opener against the Lions.
-Rookie wide receiver Colbie Young is a deep-ball threat, seemingly catching a 20+ yard ball every practice.
-Josh Newton has been performing extremely well, including an INT, a pass break-up, and successfully defending two end zone fades on day 13 of camp.
-Rookie DT Landon Robinson may be the Bengals’ new fullback after a strong showing in practice.
-The offense was clicking in a joint practice with the Chicago Bears, led by Joe Burrow’s strong performance.
Dexter Lawrence Jr. has been the exact guy all of Cincinnati has expected him to be so far.
Saturday Night, the Bengals matched up with the Bears at Paycor Stadium. The Bengals were dominant, winning 27-9.
-Rookie WR Colbie Young continued his strong preseason, catching a 17 yard pass in stride for a touchdown off a pass from quarterback Josh Johnson.
-Tanner Hudson continued his hot streak, catching a six yard touchdown to extend the lead to 17-6.
-Kicker Evan McPherson continued his succesful preseason, drilling 58 and 25 yard field goals, while also going 3/3 on PATs.
Reds
The Reds went 3-5 this week against the Cardinals and Diamondbacks.
Headlines of the week are:
-Elly De La Cruz hitting his first career walk-off against the Cardinals. He doubled in the tenth inning to bring in Tyler Stephenson for a 6-5 win.
-Saturday night’s game was absolutely electric. The Reds won 11-5, taking a 6-0 lead after four innings. However, the win itself wasn’t the crazy part. JJ Bleday hit for the cycle! He started the game with an RBI double, then an RBI Triple, followed by a single, and capped off by an solo shot in the sixth inning. He only needed 4 ABs to hit for a cycle, becoming the eighth Red all-time to go for the cycle.
This week, the Reds match-up with the Giants and the Cubs, both series are on the road. If there is any chance at making the playoffs, this will have to be an extremely impressive week.
FC Cincinnati
FCC had two matches this week, picking up four points.
8/19 | FC Cincinnati beats NYCFC 2-1 | TQL Stadium
11′ Kenji Mboma Dem: Mboma Dem ran down the left side of the box and punched it into the upper net to take a 1-0 lead for Cincinnati.
21′ Luighi Hanri: Agustin Ojeda with a great ball into the middle, Hanri finished with his right foot to even it at 1-1.
90 +1′ Evander: The superstar came through again, Gerardo Valenzuela played it into the middle of the box to Evander. He whipped around and curled the ball into the bottom left corner to send the crowd into a frenzy, winning the game 2-1!
Man of the Match: Goalkeeper Roman Celentano with seven saves
8/22 | FC Cincinnati draws Seattle 1-1 | TQL Stadium
24′ Evander: Chaos ensued in the box, with FCC putting up three shots before Evander was able to punch in a goal to take a 1-0 lead.
83′ Kalani Kossa-Rienzi: Albert Rusnak played a beautiful cross into the middle, with Rienzi finishing it to tie it 1-1 and shock TQL Stadium.

College Sports
Cincinnati
As MJ Collins Jr. remains in eligibility limbo, the Tenth Circuit granted a stay in the court case, making Collins currently ineligible. Find out more about the current state here:

Women’s Soccer played Eastern Kentucky, Illinois, and Bowling Green this week, beating EKU 3-0, losing 2-1 to Illinois, and drawing BGSU 0-0.
Xavier

Men’s Soccer opened up their season against Purdue Fort Wayne, winning 2-1 behind goals by Nolan Brice and Gerard Lorente.
As for Women’s Soccer, their scheduled match against Michigan was ruled a no-contest due to weather.
Northern Kentucky
Hunter started a new series this week called “This Week in Norse Sports”, check it out!
Miami (OH)
Miami will face High Point in a home-and-neutral series over the next two seasons following discussions between Travis Steele and High Point’s staff.
Women’s Soccer beat Morehead State 2-1 on Thursday night in comeback fashion, securing their first win of the season.

A whirlwind of a day went on for the Cardinals this week, find out what happened here from Mason:
The Cardinals volleyball team finished the opening week of the 2026 season with a 1-1 record at the Jeep AVCA First Serve, beating #8 Texas A&M and losing to Wisconsin.

Kentucky

Volleyball swept #6 Wisconsin 3-0 and lost to #4 Pitt in four sets.
Women’s Soccer played Kent State and Dayton this week, winning 5-2 and 5-0. They are now 3-0 on the year.
Indiana
Hoosiers Football opens the season ranked No. 6 in the preseason AP Top 25 poll.
Men’s Soccer beat Evansville 3-0 to open their season.
Ohio State
Buckeyes Football opened the season ranked #1 in the AP Poll Top 25 poll.
The Buckeyes named their captains for football this season. They are: wide receiver Brandon Inniss, defensive end Kenyatta Jackson Jr., safety Jaylen McClain, linebacker Payton Pierce, quarterback Julian Sayin, offensive lineman Austin Siereveld and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.
Men’s Soccer opened up their season against Virginia Tech, winning 1-0.
Women’s Soccer played Clemson and Kansas this week, drawing the Tigers 0-0 and beating Kansas 1-0.
