Jerrod Calhoun and staff will welcome another intriguing prospect to campus this summer, as 2027 three star forward Davis Cochran is set to take an official visit from July 14-16.
Listed at 6’9 220lbs, Cochran is emerging as one of the more intriguing frontcourt prospects in the 2027 recruiting class cycle. The Brentwood, Tennessee native attends Brentwood High School where he had a great junior year, averaging 21.7 PPG and 10 REBS. He also shot an efficient 60.4% from the field, and 75% from the free-throw line.
Cochran’s recruitment has gained momentum in recent months. The talented forward recently picked up offers from Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Boston College, Kansas State, and Northwestern, as Power Four programs are appearing to take notice of his skill set and long term upside.
In addition to his High School success, Cochran plays for Bradley Beal Elite on the Nike EYBL circuit. While competing on a loaded 17U roster featuring multiple composite four star prospects, he has carved out a significant role, averaging 11.4 PPG, and 8.7 REBS per game.
What makes Cochran such an appealing prospect is his versatility. He moves fluidly for a player his size and has shown he can impact the game from multiples areas of the floor. He is a legitimate perimeter threat behind the arc that defenders cannot leave unattended. He also possesses a solid post game and the ball-handling ability to attack defenders off the dribble.
In a recent interview with Tennessee Preps, Cochran stated that he had been working hard to improve his ball-handling, and being more comfortable facing the basket. Two areas he really wanted to emphasize during the off season, to elevate his game as he continues to develop.
The upcoming official visit will provide Jerrod Calhoun and the Cincinnati coaching staff an opportunity to strengthen their relationship with one of the more promising forwards in the 2027 class, that’s quickly gaining traction and turning heads in the EYBL circuit. With the Bearcats continuing to prioritize versatility, and positional flexibility in recruiting, Cochran appears to fit the mold of a player that could thrive in Cincinnati’s new system and demands of the Big 12.
