College Football Playoff Bracketology: Week 9

With Texas Tech and BYU losing, things are continually shifting. Plus, Kentucky is now a top 6 seed in the football playoff projections. Yes, Kentucky. Will Stein is the clear leader for National Coach of the Year. They sit atop the SEC standings by half a game. Here’s our week 9 CFP Bracketology!

Week 9 CFP Bracketology

Miami (FL) steamrolled Pittsburgh, winning 52-23. Mensah and Toney continue to look like they belong in NYC for the Heisman Trophy ceremony. They travel to North Carolina next weekend for a Halloween clash with Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels. They have Notre Dame looming after that, but they need to be careful to not overlook UNC as they’re good enough to beat them if Miami doesn’t come out to play.

Ohio State was on a bye this week and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Backup quarterback Tavien St. Clair will be taking over with Julian Sayin’s injury. All eyes will be in LA when they take on USC next weekend.

Georgia was also on a bye this weekend, and if we know anything about Kirby Smart and staff, this week was hell for the Bulldogs after losing to Auburn. They host the Florida Gators on Saturday looking to get back into the winning column.

Indiana needed overtime to topple Michigan. The offense is sputtering, and they have been one of the main benefactors of all of the chaos the last two weeks, because without it, they would have fallen quickly.

Utah finally got battle tested. In a late matchup with Houston Saturday night, the Utes defense held a high powered Cougar offense to just 13 points. Utah took a victory and now is the only undefeated team in the Big 12. They’re in the driver’s seat for Arlington. They head to Cincinnati this weekend who will look to carry their momentum after beating Texas Tech at Nippert Stadium. Utah needs to take care to not look ahead to the Holy War the first weekend of November.

Kentucky took care of Vanderbilt 34-17, doing exactly what ranked teams should do when playing an unranked opponent. Will Stein and Co. have jumped out to a 7-1 start and will be inside the top 10 this week. They’re on a bye this weekend before taking on Tennessee Nov. 17.

BYU fell to UCF in overtime. Every bit of the goodwill the victory over Notre Dame gained the Cougars was undone just 1 week after the monumental victory. Now, BYU will host Arizona State looking to get right before the Holy War on 11/7.

Notre Dame was on a bye this weekend and will host Navy Saturday.

Alabama survived a tough matchup with a talented Texas A&M squad. Up next is a bye before traveling to Death Valley and a matchup with LSU.

UCLA dominated Michigan State 28-10 this weekend and will host Nevada this weekend. Their schedule is light over the next three weeks and they should be 10-0 headed into a matchup with Michigan at the Big House in late November.

Texas beat Ole Miss at home this weekend. It wasn’t pretty, and they almost blew it. However, they survived. Arch Manning rushed for 2 touchdowns, threw for 1 and threw 2 interceptions. Despite all of the rumors, he was the only QB for the Longhorns this weekend. He will need to continue to improve this weekend against Mississippi State.

Boise State dominated the now 1-7 Washington State Cougars this weekend. All eyes are on the matchup with Oregon State on Nov. 14. This spot is clearly Boise’s to lose.

Next Five Considered:

Texas Tech, Wake Forest, Arizona, Ole Miss, Tennessee
