Sansom Sports Media Top 25: The People’s Poll Week 1 2026-27

Football is officially back, and the Week 1 Top 25 poll brings plenty of early-season drama. A total of 31 voters weighed in for our first official ballot of the year, highlighting major statements, surprising fallers, and a tight race at the top.

Falling out:

Preseason mainstays Michigan and Clemson both tumble out of the rankings following rough opening-week showings. Clemson’s absolute beatdown leaves no mystery as to why they dropped, while Michigan falls victim to the fallout and controversy surrounding a chaotic finish at the Big House.

Jumping in:

Virginia: Looked every bit like a top team in the ACC after an emphatic 34-8 dismantling of NC State in Week 0.

Boise State: Proved they belong in the national conversation down in Eugene. While they didn’t pull off the upset against Oregon, taking the Ducks to the wire is a massive stride forward as they chase the Group of 5 playoff bid.

Boise State looked the part of a top 25 team in Eugene after their close game with Oregon. No, they didn’t win, but proving they can compete among the top of the country was a great step towards the G6 bid this year.
