Nati Report 8/10

The Queen City stayed buzzing this week, with an up-and-down week for the Reds, the start of the Leagues Cup for FCC, scheduled visits on the college front, new additions to teams, a big Q/A session, training camp continued, and much more! Catch up on it all below!

Pro Sports

Bengals

Training camp continued this week, some brief notes are below:

-Defense has been the standout so far, stealing some of the spotlight from Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase.

-Safety Jordan Battle has been looking like a star, his best play of the week was a forced fumble on Chase Brown.

-Rookie Cashius Howell has shined so far, gaining high praise from staff.

-Dexter Lawrence has been dominant, slowing down the run game with ease.

-Chase Brown has improved his physicality this offseason, achieving high praise from QB Joe Burrow.

-The WR3 battle between Andrei Iosivas and Colbie Young is heating up. Iosivas currently owns the spot, but Young has consistently reeled in highlight plays.

HC Zac Taylor also announced that starters will play in the preseason this year. This is in order to prevent the slow starts that the Bengals have recently struggled with.

This week, the Bengals face the Lions on Thursday at 7 PM to open the preseason.

Reds

The Reds started off the week well, sweeping the Athletics and pulling within two games of .500 at 56-58. Fans were beginning to regain hope heading into the weekend series with the Washington Nationals. However, the Reds were swept, scoring six total runs in three games. This past weekend was a bit of a soul crusher for fans.

At the trade deadline, the Reds dealt 1B Nathaniel Lowe to the Guardians and RP Caleb Ferguson to the Cardinals.

This week, the Reds travel to Chicago to face the White Sox for a three game series. After that, they play the weekend back home against Miami.

FCC

Cincinnati began the group stage of the Leagues Cup this week, playing two LigaMx teams.

In the 39th, Pavel Bucha added another goal to take FCC up 2-1 heading into the break. Kenji Mboma Dem added a third goal in the 70th minute to close out the match. It was a great start to the group stage.

8/7 | FC Cincinnati beats UNAM 2-0 | TQL Stadium

Friday night started off extremely slow, as no one scored for 45 minutes. In first-half stoppage time, Pavel Bucha netted a goal for the second game in a row to make it 1-0. Jump all the way to second-half stoppage time, Kenji Mboma Dem added a goal to seal the win. Cincinnati started out the group stage with six points, making it a great week for FCC.
