Northern Kentucky University will host one of Kentucky’s top prospects in the Class of 2027 this week when Tyce Jarvis visits Highland Heights on July 23. With his recruitment reportedly narrowed to NKU and Jacksonville State, the visit could prove to be a pivotal moment in the race for one of the state’s top-ranked players.
An interview with Tyce:
Sunday night, Tyce was kind enough to answer a couple of questions for Sansom Sports Media and had this to say:
On what stands out about NKU and Jax State, he said that both teams have done really well at showing continual interest in him and keeping open lines of communication.
About his game: “I really like to compare my game to how Jayson Tatum plays, just shooting off the dribble and getting to the rim.”
On a final decision or timeline, Tyce said that he’ll be making a decision soon, but wanted to leave the recruitment open a little longer.
While injuries have occasionally inhibited his development, Jarvis has continued to attract attention from college programs thanks to his athleticism, versatility and long term upside. At 6’6″, he brings excellent size to the guard position and has shown the ability to impact the game in multiple ways on both ends of the floor.

Jarvis, a guard from Montgomery County High School, has emerged as one of the most intriguing prospects in Kentucky’s 2027 class. Ranked as the No. 9 player in the state by NextUpRecruits, Jarvis is coming off a fantastic junior season in which he averaged 19.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.4 steals per game.

Offensively, Jarvis thrives in transition where his speed, length, and explosiveness allow him to fill lanes and finish at the rim. He is equally comfortable operating in the half-court, where he has shown the ability to knock down contested three-pointers, create opportunities for teammates and make plays with the ball in his hands. His combination of size and guard skills makes him a difficult matchup and gives him the versatility to fit into a variety of systems.
Jarvis has the size that often leads players to be labeled as forwards, but his game is much more telling of a guard or wing. He is comfortable handling the basketball, creating looks for teammates and initiating offense rather than solely operating around the basket. His ability to push the pace in transition, distribute the ball and knock down perimeter shots gives him the skill set of today’s wing players. While his length allows him to match up with larger forwards defensively, Jarvis’ ball-handling, playmaking and perimeter scoring talent are what separate him from traditional forwards and make him a versatile guard/wing prospect at the next level, which is highly sought after in today’s college basketball landscape.

The Montgomery County standout currently holds offers from Northern Kentucky, Jacksonville State University , Ohio University, Morehead State University , Eastern Kentucky University, Grambling State University, Alcorn State University, and several other Division I programs. As his recruitment enters what appears to be its final stages, the Norse will have an opportunity to make a lasting impression during this week’s visit.
For NKU, locking Jarvis down would represent a significant recruiting victory. Not only would the Norse secure one of Kentucky’s top 2027 prospects, but they would do so in a head-to-head battle against a similar type of program. With a decision potentially on the horizon, all eyes will be on Highland Heights as Jarvis gets an up-close look at what Northern Kentucky has to offer!
