After a feisty week in the SEC, with numerous big results in conference games, there is sure to be teams flying up and down the rankings. Here is where everyone stands after three weeks of play.
- Georgia
There is only one thing necessary to say as to why the Bulldogs are up here. They have scored 59.3 points per game. Competition will pick up a bit this week as they host Oklahoma.
- Texas
The Longhorns were shaky offensively against UTSA, but Texas battled to a win. Up next is a big one, the first road game of the season against Tennessee. Gameday will be there, and we’ll get to see how quarterback Arch Manning handles Neyland stadium.
- Ole Miss
Ole Miss won arguably the biggest game of the entire season. There are better teams than LSU, but there was not more animosity going into a game this year. Ole Miss played with that animosity, and it fueled them to a victory over LSU. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has played even better than how he has been projected to be, throwing for 363 yards against the Tigers.
- Alabama
Alabama needs to figure out the slow starts, and they have been all over the place with what has excelled for them, but 3-0 is 3-0. If they can play a complete game against the top teams in the SEC, they can beat any of them.
- Tennessee
Quarterback Brandon Fazion continues to be effective for the Volunteers but he will have his toughest test so far with Texas coming to town Saturday.
- LSU
A loss that LSU is going to hate to have, but losing to a top five team on the road, by one possession, isn’t a bad loss at all. The Tigers drop a couple spots, but only because it is so early in the season.
- Mississippi State
Mississippi State was projected as one of the bottom two teams in the SEC, but have gotten an incredible start to the season from quarterback Kamario Taylor, who had another 4 touchdown game, this time against South Carolina.
- Missouri
Troy is a great team in the Sun Belt Conference, and it took a comeback for Missouri to take them down. The Tigers will get the seventh ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs in week 4.
- Florida
Hard to imagine that Florida, who has scored 54 points per game, being ninth on any list, but that speaks to the talent in the entire SEC. Running back Jaden Baugh is up to 458 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns, which is in the top two nationally. They’d jump up the list with a win against Ole Miss this weekend.
- Kentucky
The second half collapse against Alabama didn’t kill Kentucky, in fact, it rejuvenated them. The Wildcats went on the road to Texas A&M and pulled off the upset win in dominant fashion, and are in a great spot now under head coach Will Stein.
- Texas A&M
The Aggies are the biggest fallers of the week, dropping a home game to Kentucky. What was starting to look like a strong season has turned into a disappointing one. Five spots down in the rankings may be harsh, but the teams that passed them all had great weeks.
- Auburn
The Tigers dropped a tough game at home to Florida, one that they were in the entire time, just couldn’t get stops when they needed to. Auburn has given up the most yards per game of any defense in the SEC, and that has to change soon, or they’re going to continue to fall down the table.
- Oklahoma
Another week of a rough offensive performance for the Sooners, who escaped with a win against a good New Mexico team after turning the ball over 3 times. Once the offense gets going, they should be able to compete with anyone, but that has yet to come. Georgia is up next, certainly not the team you want to play when you’re still figuring things out.
- South Carolina
South Carolina lost their SEC opener to Mississippi State, and will soon have to travel to play Alabama. Head coach Shane Beamer’s seat is going to get much hotter if things don’t turn around quickly.
- Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt won their game with a miracle, and sits at 3-0, but they still haven’t looked great. Quarterback Jared Curtis showed flashes in his first game, but the Commodores can certainly call themselves fortunate to still be undefeated.
- Arkansas
The only SEC team that has a record under .500, there’s not much else to say about the Razorbacks right now.
