Brandon Mason Jr. will take an official visit to Xavier on August 19-21. First reported by Sam Kayser (@KayserHoops) on X. He is a 6’6″ shooting guard from Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is ranked 76th nationally per 247 Hoops (126th in the composite), and is 98th in the SC Next 100. Rivals grade shim as a 3* prospect, but all three have him as the #1 player in New Mexico’s 2027 class.

Mason holds 19 offers, mainly from schools out west. He is gaining high major steam and now holds offers from Xavier, as well as TCU, Arizona State and Washington. Currently, Missouri and Stanford are involved in his recruitment.
AAU & Scout Analysis
Mason competes on the RecruitLook Circuit and was the only nationally ranked recruit when the Circuit stopped in Dallas in May. However, Mason immediately stood out as a shooter who was capable of carrying his team at this level, but likely not a volume scorer in college (Brandon Jenkins). Before that showcase, Mason talked with Jenkins to break down schools most involved, he said Missouri, New Mexico, Stanford and Xavier were the most involved at that time. Mason was in person in Boise, Idaho in March to catch Boise State’s win over San Diego State on his official visit to the Broncos. Per 247Sports, Xavier will be his second official visit in total.
High School:
Mason was at ABC (Albuquerque Basketball Club) Prep last year in New Mexico. He will now be transferring to Link Academy in Branson, Missouri to continue his high school career. This bodes well for teams who are wanting to recruit him away from the western region of the US and would be a plus to Xavier. He’s already willing to leave his hometown to get the best development possible. On a family note, his father played at New Mexico State University and is involved with hoops in Albuquerque.
First Impression:
What I’ve seen of Mason leaves me wanting him to put on some muscle, and I agree with Jenkins’ previous sentiment that he isn’t a true volume scorer, but I believe he has the tools and frame to be a 3 and D type of guy at the D1 level. His recruitment is still unraveling, and he is still undecided on a formal commitment timeline. Xavier’s connections run deep with him, as the staff (Coach Chew) was recruiting him when they were in New Mexico.
