Argentina: 3, Egypt: 2
Another game for the history books. Argentina came all the way back in the final 10 minutes of the game to stun the Egyptians.
It was a header from centre back Yasser Ibrahim who scored the first goal of the match on a header. Considering how heavily favored Argentina were, it put everyone on notice that this match could be interesting.
Egypt’s fun didn’t last too long, as Argentina won a penalty. Striker Lionel Messi stepped up, and his attempt was saved by goalkeeper Mostafa Ahmed Shobeir. Shobeir was incredible for Egypt in the first half, making save after save, keeping them in the lead.
Argentina were pushing, but Egypt scored the second goal in the 58th minute on a long counter attack. However, the goal was taken away for a foul in the buildup. Striker Mostafa Ziko would get his goal nine minutes later to put the Egyptians up 2-0 anyways.
The minutes were ticking away, and Argentina began their comeback. In the 79th minute, centre back Christian Romero, who was playing further up to score headers, scored a header. In the 83rd minute, Messi tied the game with a rocket off the crossbar and in. In stoppage time, attacking midfielder Enzo Fernandez won it for Argentina with a header.
It is heartbreaking for Egypt, who played excellently all match, just losing to Argentina’s talent in the end. Argentina will play Switzerland in the Quarterfinals.
