Day Day Thomas to Play for the Boston Celtics in the NBA Summer League

Cincinnati, Ohio – After 3 years with Cincinnati, Day Day Thomas has left his mark despite not making the NCAA tournament. He started his career at Kilgore College (JUCO), where he averaged nearly 20 points per game before making the jump to Cincinnati and the Big 12!

While at UC, he crossed the 1000 point mark and was an aggressive defender with elite playmaking ability and he was never afraid to take the big shot. He averaged double figures in all 3 years he was with the Bearcats, taking great care of the ball and adding in 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game. This past season, he put up 19 points in the home victory over Iowa State, who came in 16-2 and ranked #2 in the nation before falling 79-70. Day Day had 2 turnovers and forced 2 steals and a block while playing elite defense on Iowa State’s elite guards. Despite the tenuous time in Bearcats hoops, he was always a guy who gave his all when he stepped on the court.

Now, he’s earned his shot to compete in the NBA Summer League where he will join up with former Bearcat Dillon Mitchell, who was taken with round 2, pick 40 by Boston, and Chris Cenac Jr., a 6’11” forward out of Houston! The Celtics are currently in the midst of trading away JAylen Brown for Paul George and draft capital in what is a controversial decision. I expect to see a ton of eyes on Boston’s youthful core this summer, which means that Day Day will have every opportunity to earn his keep and get a long-term contract!

Boston’s Schedule:

  • Friday July 10 @ 9:00 vs. Toronto Raptors
  • Sunday July 12 @ 5:00 vs. Charlotte Hornets
  • Monday July 13 @ 6:00 vs. Atlanta Hawks
  • Wednesday July 15 @ 8:00 vs. Sacramento Kings
  • They will play a 5th game at some point depending on results!
