Record-Setter Arrives in Clifton. Get to Know JC French IV

As Cincinnati looked to add an experienced quarterback to its roster, experience was clearly a priority. The Bearcats found exactly that in graduate transfer JC French IV, a veteran leader who arrives in Clifton with one year of eligibility remaining and a proven track record of success.

The 6’1, 200lb quarterback from Roswell, Georgia comes to Cincinnati after a productive career at Georgia Southern, where he left his mark on the program’s record books. French finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in passing yards, a testimony to both his talent and consistency over multiple seasons.

Last season, French completed 248 of his 389 pass attempts, posting a 63.8 percent completion rate while throwing for 2,929 yards, 20 touchdowns, and just eight interceptions. His ability to take care of the football stands out immediately. French has built a reputation as a quarterback who processes defenses quickly, gets the ball out on time, and avoids putting his offense in difficult situations.

While his passing numbers are impressive, French also brings mobility to the position. He rushed 133 times for 315 yards and six touchdowns last season, giving Cincinnati a quarterback capable of extending plays and picking up tough yards when needed. He may not be known as a true dual-threat quarterback, but his athleticism adds another layer to the offense and forces defenses to account for him as a runner.

One of the most encouraging aspects of French’s arrival is the situation he’ll be stepping into. Cincinnati’s offensive line was one of the best pass protecting units in the country last season, finishing second nationally in fewest sacks allowed. The Bearcats also return three key starters in Evan Tengesdahl, Taran Tyo, and Joe Cotton, giving French an experienced group up front that should allow him to operate comfortably in the pocket.

That combo could prove massive. French’s ability to quickly read coverages and make smart decisions compliments well with an offensive line that consistently keeps its quarterback protected. With time to work through his motions, Cincinnati could benefit from one of the more experienced quarterbacks in the Big 12.

Beyond just the statistics, French brings something every program values. Leadership. As a graduate transfer with extensive starting experience, he’ll enter the locker room having seen just about everything college football can throw at a quarterback. Whether it’s managing adversity during a season, preparing for conference play, or handling pressure moments, those experiences can be invaluable for a roster looking to take the next step.

French also knows what it takes to win. He helped lead Georgia Southern to a 29-10 victory over Appalachian State in the Birmingham Bowl, ending his time with the Eagles on a high note before committing to Coach Satterfield and the Bearcats.

Coming out of high school, French was a three-star prospect who ranked 77th among quarterbacks in his recruiting class. Since then, he’s developed into a school record setting college quarterback with nearly 3,000 passing yards in his most recent season.

The Bearcats aren’t bringing in JC French IV based on potential alone. They’re bringing in a quarterback who has produced, won games, protected the football, and proven himself against competition. For a Cincinnati team looking to compete in the Big 12, adding his veteran presence could prove to be one of the most important moves of the offseason.
