World Cup Preview: Group C

Group C is a good battle of old school and new school. Brazil has the most World Cup wins of all time, and Scotland has been playing the game since the Stone Age. But Morocco churned out a semifinal appearance in 2022, and don’t sleep on Haiti.

Possibly the biggest brand in world soccer, Brazil has the team to live up to the name. They have brought in legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti to assemble one of the most talented rosters coming to North America. Vinicius Junior is the headliner, one of the world’s great players at Real Madrid, and the world is going to get treated with him and Raphinia both at the winger position. Casemiro has had a renaissance at Manchester United, Gabriel might be the best centre back in the world, the list goes on and on. Neymar is even here for what is likely his last chance at a World Cup.

In the World Cup for the first time since 1974, it’s been a long time coming for Haiti. Unfortunately, they have one of the toughest schedules in the entire tournament. Wilson Isidor will be the player to watch out for, as he looks to guide the Haitians to a couple of shockers.

The other top ranked team in this group, Morocco, has been sensational in the 2020s. Finishing fourth in Qatar, upsetting Portugal and Spain in the process, while also controversially winning the last African Cup of Nations. The defense is where they will win their games. Yassine Bounou is getting older, but is still a great goalkeeper. Achraf Hakimi is a superstar, and has won nearly everything possible at PSG. Noussair Mazraoui is an effective defender at Manchester United. Brazil and Morocco will be one of the biggest group stage games.

Scotland has been in a lull for quite some time, but this is the generation to make some noise, and they qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1998. Scott McTominay will be the big name on this team, who joined Napoli in 2024 and has turned into one of the best players in the Italian Serie A. John McGinn led Aston Villa to a UEFA Europa League trophy. This team is criminally underrated, but the question is if they will be able to get points against the powers in this group.
