NKU continues to reload this offseason, this time bringing in a freshman in Patrick Otto Mäe! Patrick spent last year with the Tilton school out of New Hampshire for post-grad development. Patrick is from Estonia originally, and has a lot of raw athleticism that needs the right mold to help elevate to his full potential. He’s a 6’8″, 205lb wing. His 6’10” wingspan gives him a great frame for rebounding and disruption in the defensive system for the Norse.
For the Estonian national team last year, Patrick competed with the U20’s in league B. He averaged 6.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and an assist in 13.5 minutes per game (6 games) while shooting 50% from the field (16/32). He hit 3/5 of his 3-point attempts.

Watching some of his highlights (linked below) shows that he’s very comfortable on the ball and has a dangerous first step. His shot is pure, and he enjoys getting to the rim. His motor on defense is apparent and he uses that length well on both sides of the ball.
Overall, Patrick is a solid addition to NKU’s roster. The staff continue to look for size, athleticism and potential from the international waters. Patrick’s explosiveness should translate well to NKU’s roster! I do view him as a bit more of a project than a plug-and-play piece this year.
