Tuesday Bracketology: Bubble Battles and More Conference Tournaments Kickoff

Welcome to Tuesday!

Monday saw just 2 results that impacted the NCAAT field.

Duke dominated NC State, winning in a blowout. Duke → 1 overall, NCSU → 9.

Arizona takes care of Iowa State in Tucson. AZ remains 3 overall, ISU remains a 3 seed.

Cleveland State was our first team to notch a postseason win this year, taking down IU Indy!

Tuesday Promises to deliver:

Tennessee @ South Carolina | 6:00, SECN

Tennessee is coming off heartbreak, and they’re likely looking ahead a bit to Vanderbilt on Saturday. It’s important that the Vols take care of business here. UT → 5.

Alabama @ Georgia | 6:30, ESPNNEWS

Alabama travels to Athens in what is a sneakily important game. UGA is favored by 1.5 here, and this feels like anyone’s game! Georgia is a 10 currently, Alabama → 4.

TCU @ Texas Tech | 7:00, FS1

Tech is currently in the field as a 3 seed, while TCU is a 11, just above Dayton. Tech is playing some of its best ball right now, despite losing JT Toppin, while TCU is starting to come around as well. A win here would mean TCU gets to 20 wins which would likely be enough to wrap up a bid. Tech is favored by 10.5.

Seton Hall @ Xavier | 7:00, truTV

If the Pirates want any actual hope of making the field, it starts right here. I think SHU is a bit too far out to climb in, but a loss to Xavier would end it. SHU favored by 1.5. Wake Forest @ Virginia | 7:00, ACCN

UVA is currently in the field as a 4 seed, and that feels like where they’ll end up this year. UVA is favored by 14.5 in a game they should roll through.

Clemson @ North Carolina | 7:00, ESPN

This might be the biggest game of the night. Clemson is in a much better spot now, however, they’re still looking to climb up from the 8 line. UNC, meanwhile is looking to push toward the 4 line. UNC favored by 2.5.

Georgetown @ St. John’s | 7:00, Peacock

This is a landmine for the Johnnies. They’re favored by 15.5. SJU currently projects as a 5.

Toledo @ Miami (OH) | 7:00, ESPN+

Massive matchup in the MAC. Miami looks to get to 30-0. They’re favored by 8.5.

George Mason @ VCU | 7:00, CBSSN

VCU is my last team in, which means they’re highly susceptible to the bid thief’s (who will come), so VCU needs to continue winning, and doing so by a wide margin. They’re favored by 11.5.

Oklahoma State @ UCF | 7:00, ESPN+

Oklahoma State is done. UCF, meanwhile is an 8. A loss here would leave them an 8/9. The Knights are favored by 8.5.

Missouri @ Oklahoma | 7:00, ESPNU

Oklahoma is favored by 2.5. This is a critical game for Missouri, who has finally stabilized on the 9 line and seems destined to make the field this year. OU will provide a stiff challenge tonight!

Kentucky @ Texas A&M | 7:00, ESPN2

Massive matchup in College Station. A&M is currently one of my final teams in the field, and cannot afford to lose out this year. UK, meanwhile, is pushing their way up the 6 line and trying to improve seeding.

Mississippi State @ Florida | 8:00, SECN

Florida is playing as one of the best teams in the country. Expect them to roll here. Favored by 23.5.

WVU @ Kansas State | 8:00, ESPN+

Big if here, but if WVU wants to have a tournament chance, they have to win out. They’re favored by 1.5 here.

Oregon @ Illinois | 9:00, Peacock

Illinois is favored by 17.5 here at home, and is looking to stabilize their footing on the 2 line.

Kansas @ Arizona State | 9:00, FS1

Kansas is favored by just 5.5 here, the Jayhawks are currently a 4 and will look to move up with other results around them.

Vanderbilt @ Ole Miss | 9:00, SECN+

How does Vandy rebound after losing to UK? Are they looking ahead to Tennessee this weekend? The Commodores face Ole Miss, who just upset Auburn. They need to come ready to play here.

BYU @ Cincinnati | 9:00, ESPN2

The Bearcats vs. the Cougars. Massive matchup at 5/3rd! There are a ton of unknowns, but Cincinnati could make some noise with a win here. I have them as 7th out. BYU is currently my top 7, while a win here would solidify their footing, a loss could really push them down. Cincinnati favored by 1.5.

San Diego State @ Boise State | 9:00, CBSSN

Boise is favored by 1.5 at ExtraMile. However, SDSU has to win this to have any chance at an at-large. Boise will not make it. SDSU → 4th out.

Boston College @ Virginia Tech | 9:00, ESPNU

Tech is favored by 12.5. They’re my first team out right now, they have to win this to have a shot.

Syracuse @ Louisville | 9:00, ACCN

The Cardinals come in favored by 12.5 in this matchup. Expect them to roll. A win solidifies them on the 6 line, while a loss could push them down.

LSU @ Auburn | 10:00, SECN

Auburn is currently 3 spots out of the field. A loss here practically eliminates them. A win keeps them right on the edge. They’re favored by 8.5.

Nebraska @ UCLA | 11:00, FS1

Nebraska is favored by 1.5, however, this matchup is critical in several different ways. UCLA is desperate for another key win, and this would likely secure a bid for the Bruins. Nebraska, however, is looking to climb to the 2 line. UCLA is a 10.

Utah State @ UNLV | 11:00, CBSSN

USU is favored by 8.5 in this MWC matchup! Expect them to roll and lock up a bid. They project as a 7, and are likely fine either way!

Horizon League (Tournament)

Tuesday night will see just 1 first round matchup. Fort Wayne @ Green Bay at 8:00. This is the 5/6 battle, and is honestly a toss-up. GB will come in as slight favorites.

Horizon League Bracket

Sun Belt (Tournament)

We will start to climb the ladder tonight! Louisiana and Georgia State will face off, followed by UL Monroe and Old Dominion. Expect the Louisiana and GA State game to be close, but the UL Monroe/ODU game to be a bit of a track meet with ODU likely winning by double figures.

Sun Belt Bracket

Patriot League (Tournament)

The first round starts tonight. Army and Bucknell will face off in Lewisburg, PA, while Holy Cross and Lafayette battle in Easton, PA. Both of these games figure to be very close.

Patriot League Bracket

America East

Final day of the regular season! UMBC will win the league this year, however, 2nd place is up for grabs! NJIT hosts UMBC in a key matchup, and UAlbany takes on Vermont in Burlington. Vermont wins and they’re the 2 seed. A loss with an NJIT win creates a tie! Elsewhere, Umass Lowll and Maine battle, with Maine hoping to keep their spot just above Bryant. Bryant and New Hampshire will face off, with the loser falling back a bit.

America East Standings

CAA

Towson and Stony Brook battle in a tight race in the middle of the bracket. William & Mary takes on Hampton in a game with lasting implications in the middle as well. UNC Wilmington will look to clinch the title with a win over Elon. NC A&T travels to Campbell in a game towards the bottom of the bracket, Drexel and Hofstra face off in Hempstead in a game that will help decide who ends up in 3rd. Finally, Monmouth and Northeastern play, with Monmouth looking to keep up with Hofstra. A Drexel win and Monmouth win would mean a 3 way tie for 3rd. A UNCW loss means a tie for first!

MAC

Miami is, of course, above here. The RedHawks will look to clinch at least a share of the regular season title with a win tonight. Akron travels to Central Michigan, hoping to keep pace with Miami. Eastern Michigan and Buffalo face off to start the night. This will have massive implications in the bottom half of the bracket. Ohio travels to Amherst to take on UMass. OU looks to stay in 5th, while UMass looks to move up a bit. Ball State and Western Michigan face off with implications at the bottom of the bracket. Kent State and Northern Illinois face off in a game the Flash should dominate.

MAC Standings

SWAC

Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Jackson State face off in a matchup that will have lasting implications in the middle of the bracket. Jackson State looks to climb up a bit, while Pine Bluff looks to move into a tie for 2nd. Southern travels to Alabama State in a matchup that could see Southern join the 10 win teams, while Alabama St could pull even with Prairie View. Mississippi State and Alcorn State face off in the bottom of the conference.
