Seed List Notes

I scrubbed the seed list yet again last night. The picture above here is the most up-to-date list! Movement based off of last night:

  • Florida → 6 overall
  • Houston → 7 overall
  • Purdue → 8 overall
  • Illinois → 9 overall
  • Troy → Jumps into the field while App State falls out

Friday Night:

Miami Survives, but barely! A Trey Perry layup at the buzzer was the difference!

Michigan just completely overwhelmed Illinois last night, pushing the Illini to the 3 line.

Sun Belt Chaos

Congrats to the Troy Trojans who clinched the conference last night!

We have a 6 way tie for 2nd! This is pure, unbridled chaos!

Saturday:

Saturday will provide chaos, but should also help give clarity on some aspects of the bracket. While I would love to provide detailed breakdowns for every game/conference, I honestly do not have the bandwidth to breakdown every game. There will be a handful of conferences whose standings finalize today! I’ll have updates on X!

Noon-1:45 Tipoffs:

Virginia @ Duke | Noon, ESPN

Duke is favored by 10.5 in this pivotal ACC matchup. A UVA win would tie them with Duke with just a week remaining in the regular season! Duke – 1 overall. UVA – 4 currently.

Colorado @ Houston | Noon, ESPN2

I would not want to be this Colorado team. Look for Houston to roll here. Houston is a 2 seed currently.

Seton Hall @ UConn | Noon, FS1

UConn is coming off a crazy high after their beatdown of SJU. Can Seton Hall take advantage of a potentially laid back UConn squad? Or will Hurley and co. come in and take care of business? They’re favored by 13.5. SHU is desperate to help their resume.

Iowa @ Penn State | Noon, BTN

Iowa is in a great position to get a single digit seed. Today, they’re favored by 9.5 coming in and they do project as a 7. A win tonight will lock them. A loss likely moves them to the 8/9 line, but more by virtue of how close those teams are.

NC State @ Notre Dame | Noon, The CW

Much like Iowa, NC State is on the 7 line, however, they are already locked. A loss here would move them to the 8.

Fordham @ VCU | 12:30, USA

VCU is quietly just right there in the bubble picture. They’re currently my first team out, however, a win here and other losses around them could see the Rams jump in. A loss, however, would spell extreme trouble for them.

Missouri @ Mississippi State | 1:00, SECN

Missouri is currently a 10 seed, and they come into today favored by 1.5. Mississippi State is not a tournament team this year, and a loss here would likely push Missouri back towards the 11 line.

2:00-3:45 Tipoffs:

Louisville @ Clemson | 2:00, ESPN2

This game is vital, really for both teams. Clemson is spiraling right now and desperately needs a win today. Louisville, on the other hand will look to pick up a key Q1 win and shuffle up on the 6 line a bit. Louisville is favored by 1.5.

Vanderbilt @ Kentucky | 2:00, ESPN

Rupp should be hyped for this one! UK comes in favored by 1.5, and both squads are playing to improve seeding. Vandy projects as a 5, while UK is a 7. Vanderbilt would likely move to a 4 with a win, while UK would stabilize on the 7 line with a shot to move to the 6 with other results.

Oklahoma State @ Cincinnati | 2:00, CBSSN

OKST is on the very fringe of being into the field. A loss here would eliminate them. The Bearcats are playing much better of late, and will look to keep the momentum up! UC favored by 9.5.

UCLA @ Minnesota | 2:00, FS1

The Bruins have done a ton of great work recently to get back on the right side of the bubble, now projecting as a 9. Minnesota is competitive, especially at home. Look for them to keep this one close and maybe even pull the upset. UCLA is favored by 1.5.

San Diego State @ New Mexico | 2:00, CBS

The Aztecs are currently the projected AQ in the MWC. A win today would help solidify that, as well as improve their tournament positioning greatly. However, a UNM win would likely see them jump into the field. This is the definition of a bubble battle! UNM is favored by 2.5.

Boston College @ Miami | 2:00, ACCN

Landmine. Miami is favored by 16.5. The Hurricanes are a 9 currently.

South Carolina @ Georgia | 3:30, SECN

Georgia is favored by 11.5. They are also projected as a 10. However, losing to South Carolina at home would push them to the 11 line pending other results. A win here, however, means they avoid a bad loss and they move into a really solid overall spot for a bid!

4:00-5:45 Tipoffs:

Kansas @ Arizona | 4:00, ESPN

Arizona is favored by 9.5 at home, and the way these two teams are playing, that feels like a ton. The Wildcats are clearly a 1 seed currently, and Kansas is a 3. I do think KU has a shot at a 2 seed, but would need to win out. This is the game of the day!

Texas Tech @ Iowa State | 4:00, CBS

Game of the day part II. I despise that both of these games are at 4:00 today. However, ISU is favored by 9.5 here, and that feels like a lot of points. Since losing Toppin, Tech has maintained an elite level of play, and continues to look solid. However, going into Hilton is a completely different beast! ISU is a 2, while TTU is a 4.

Nebraska @ USC | 4:00, BTN

This is a season defining opportunity for USC. A win here would vault them right back into the field, however, a loss would leave them saying “what if”, potentially for the entire offseason. Nebraska, however, is looking to stay on the 3 line, and a loss here would likely push them to a 4. Nebraska comes in favored by 4.5.

Wisconsin @ Washington | 4:00, FS1

Wisconsin heads to Seattle as 1.5 point favorites, and the Badgers are coming off a loss to Oregon. A win here would make them feel much more comfortable about their seeding. A loss, however, and they could be pushing towards the 8 line. They’re currently the final 6.

Pitt @ Cal | 4:00, ACCN

This game is vital for Cal to win, not because it’s a great win, but because it would be a horrible loss for a bubble team. Cal is currently the final team in my field. The Bears are favored by 7.5 in Berkeley.

Texas @ Texas A&M | 4:00, ESPN2

Yet another bubble battle! This time in a historic rivalry. A&M is favored by 3.5 at home. The Aggies are projected as a 10, while Texas projects as a 11, in Dayton. A loss could see Texas fall out, but a win could push them to the 10 line. A&M will remain in either way, likely remaining on the 10 line with a loss, but could move to the 9 line with a win!

BYU @ WVU | 5:30, FOX

BYU comes into this matchup favored by 1.5. They’re coming off a rough loss to UCF at home, and will look to move in the right direction here. WVU, however, might still have a shot if they win out. That has to start here or there is no shot. BYU is a 6 currently, and I think they’ll likely stay there either way.

6:00-7:45 Tipoffs

Alabama @ Tennessee | 6:00, ESPN

No Bediako… Officially… For now! Tennessee is favored by 4.5 here, and I expect Knoxville to be chaotic! UT is a 5, while Alabama is a 4. Winner likely will be #16 overall after the weekend

SMU @ Stanford | 6:00, ACCN

SMU is currently favored by 1.5 in this key battle in Stanford. While the Cardinal are on the outside looking in, SMU isn’t safe at this time, and could fall quickly. A win here won’t lock them, but will make them feel extremely safe going into the final week.

TCU @ Kansas State | 6:30, ESPN2

TCU has to win this game in Manhattan. They’re favored by 2.5. Currently among the teams I have in Dayton.

8:00 and Later Tipoffs:

Villanova @ St. John’s | 8:00, FOX

How does SJU respond after getting obliterated by UConn this week? Tonight should tell us a lot about the Johnnies resilience this year. A win here for SJU keeps them right there on the 5/6 line, while a loss puts them squarely on the 6. For Nova, a win likely would push them to the 6 line come Sunday. SJU favored by 7.5.

Duquesne @ Saint Louis | 8:00, ESPN+

SLU has to stop the bleeding, and quickly. They’re favored by 15.5 here at Chaifetz.

Oregon State @ Santa Clara | 8:00, CBSSN

SCU is currently one of the teams I have projected in Dayton. A loss here would be brutal. Tinkle just got fired for the Beavers, do they come out playing loose and upset SCU?! Doubtful, as SCU is favored by 16.5.

Baylor @ UCF | 8:00, FS1

Fresh off a monumental win, does UCF come out a bit hungover or do they come out hot and take care of the Bears? They’re favored by 2.5 at home, and are currently projected as the final 8 seed.

Arkansas @ Florida | 8:30, ESPN

Massive matchup in Gainesville! A win here for either team would help shift seeding. Arkansas is currently a 5, but a road win like this could vault them to the 4 line. Florida is currently the final 2, and a win here would solidify that spot, while a loss would push them to the 3. UF is favored 9.5 points.

Virginia Tech @ North Carolina | 8:30, ESPN2

North Carolina is favored by just 6.5 at home. Wilson remains out at this time, and this is a huge opportunity for the Hokies here. UNC would likely fall to a 6 with a loss, but would stay a 5 with a win. Tech would jump into the field with a win here.

Ole Miss @ Auburn | 8:30, SECN

Auburn cannot lose this. 15-13 is such a bad record. The Tigers are favored by 10.5 here.

Grand Canyon @ Utah State | 10:00, FS1

The Aggies are favored by 10.5 and are coming off a loss to SDSU. Expect Logan to be chaotic tonight. USU projects as an 8 seed currently.

Gonzaga @ Saint Mary’s | 10:30, ESPN

These games are the most important ones of the entire year in the mid-major world every single year! Saint Mary’s wins and they’re pretty safely in. However, a loss could shift things a bit. Currently they’re projected as an 8. Gonzaga is projected as a 4 seed currently. Gonzaga is favored by 2.5.
