Welcome to Monday! The sports world saw the first high-major opening of the year yesterday as Kansas State fired Jerome Tang FOR CAUSE. I’m not an attorney and don’t have the contract in front of me, but I have a feeling attorneys will be involved quickly on this one. His buyout would’ve been $18 million. College Basketball Bracketology, featuring teams seeded 1-16 and including 9 teams "out"

The headlining game of the day was Illinois beating Indiana by 20 in Champaign. Mirkovic put up 25 and Humrichous pulled down 8 boards to lead the Illini.

Seton Hall uses a strong 2H to beat Butler in Hinkle. The Pirates are very close to the field.

Cincinnati beat Utah. Cincinnati has an extremely slim shot at an at-large, with Kansas up next!

Horizon League Chaos:

  • Robert Morris beat Oakland 93-69
  • Detroit Mercy beat Youngstown State 76-70
  • Wright State beat Cleveland State 102-90
  • Purdue Fort Wayne beat IU Indy 83-78
  • Milwaukee beat Green Bay 75-72

With today’s results, the Horizon top 5 race is absolute chaos. Wright State now has a 2 game lead in first place in the conference. Robert Morris and Green Bay are tied for 3rd at 10-7, Purdue Fort Wayne and Detroit Mercy are tied for 5/6 at 9-7, and Northern Kentucky lurks in 7th at 8-8. The finish here is going to be fabulous!

Charleston beat Campbell and Monmouth beat Towson. Charleston stays relatively close to UNCW for the conference lead.

Dayton beat Davidson in Dayton in a key A-10 matchup along the middle of the table.

South Florida survives in OT and suddenly has a handle on the American Race!

The MAAC saw crucial results today:

  • Merrimack beat Quinnipiac by 7, taking a handle on first place.
  • Siena beats Marist to take over 3rd place.
  • Saint Peters wins to stay a couple behind Merrimack!

The MVC Saw Chaos:

  • Belmont trailed by 15 at the half and won by 17 over Murray State! The Bruins are close to locking the league up.
  • Bradley moves to 11-5 with a win over SIU.
  • UIC takes sole possession of 4th at 10-6 with their win over Ill State.

Omaha beat Denver in Omaha in a key Summit matchup.

Day Basketball!! SE Louisiana @ East Texas A&M | 2:00, ESPN+

ETA&M is favored by 1.5 in a battle at the bottom of the Southland.

Colgate @ Boston U | 6:00, CBSSN

Colgate is favored by 1.5 on the road in what will be a rock fight. Colgate is looking to keep pace with Navy in the race for the title.

Syracuse @ Duke | 7:00, ESPN

Landmine for the 1 seed hopeful Blue Devils. They’re favored by 21.5.

Morgan State @ NC Central | 7:00, ESPN+

This is a really interesting matchup in the crowded MEAC. NCCU favored by 4.5 and looking to climb back up!

Bethune-Cookman @ Jackson State | 7:00. ESPNU

This is a key SWAC matchup as Bethune is atop the conference. A win here moves them to 11-3. They’re favored by 5.5.

Norfolk State @ MD Eastern Shore | 7:00

Norfolk is 5-4 and MD Eastern Shore is 4-5 in conference play right now. This is a key battle along the standings!

South Alabama @ Marshall | 7:00, ESPN+

USA is 9-4, while Marshall is 8-5 in Sun Belt play. This matchup will help determine the pecking order as the year winds down. Marshall is favored by 4.5.

Lamar @ UT Rio Grande Valley | 7:30, ESPN+

UTRGV is favored by 5.5 here and looking to keep their spot secure behind the top 2.

McNeese @ Northwestern State | 7:30, ESPN+

McNeese should roll to their 15th Southland win here.

Arkansas Pine Bluff @ Alabama A&M | 8:00

Alabama A&M is favored by 3.5 in this one, and this promises to be a fun matchup! Pine Bluff is 8-4 in SWAC, while A&M is 7-5.

Southern @ Texas Southern | 8:00

Southern is favored by 2.5. A win here is critical to keep them toawards the top. They’re 8-4 in the SWAC, while TX Southern is 6-6.

Drexel @ Stony Brook | 8:00, CBSSN

This battle promises to feature very few points. However, both teams re 7-6 in CAA play and looking for a leg up!

Stephen F. Austin @ Texas A&M CC | 8:00, ESPN+

This is one of the biggest games of the night! SFA is looking to continue to roll through Southland play, while CC looks to cause some chaos! SFA is favored by 4.5.

Houston @ Iowa State | 9:00, ESPN

The Game of the Night, if not the entire week! Iowa State and Hilton Magic are favored by 1.5 in a game that promises to feature some elite defense and huge intensity. A Houston win here and things get very interesting along the 1 line. Both teams are 2 seeds coming in.
